Others believe that making the ideal pizza requires a specific level of precision. But what few can argue is that when you get your hands on a pizza that’s been both prepared and cooked properly, nothing else on earth comes close to it. The evolution of pizza ovens has made them perfect for preparing a variety of foods in addition to their namesake! Having said that, not all pizza ovens are created equal, and several models are designed for different outputs and spatial limitations. There are many types of pizza ovens with a variety of shapes and sizes. So read on to determine which kind of oven is appropriate for your needs if you are planning to buy or build your own. It's crucial to conduct preliminary study because each variety has its own pros and cons. Types Of Pizza Ovens Brick Ovens These ovens use a hearth and dome that are modelled after the designs of vintage bakery ovens and are built from refractory or high heat bricks. These can be powered by wood, gas, or coal, but most pizza fans concur that wood is the best option if you want to achieve a truly authentic and smoky flavour that is virtually impossible to achieve with a traditional home oven. Due to its aesthetics and wood-fired flavour, brick pizza ovens are typically a favourite for any authentic-style pizzeria. The typical temperature range for these ovens on the hearth is between 700 and 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Preheating can take upwards of an hour, however once heated, though, pizzas can be cooked anywhere from 90 seconds to five minutes depending on how many you’re cooking at once. You can utilise the heat that lingers to dry vegetables, reheat foods that have already been cooked, or simply keep your tea warm. A brick oven is therefore what you would need if you do not mind a longer wait for your food and want to prepare something more once the main cooking is over. Metal Ovens Metal pizza ovens are typically built of stainless steel or aluminium and heat up much more quickly, enabling speedy cooking operations. Unfortunately, this also means that a metal oven cools down more quickly when the fire burns out, making it necessary to keep the fire going for longer periods of time when preparing foods that require a longer cooking time, such as bread or roasted poultry. Therefore, if you only need to prepare a quick meal and lack the patience or time for slow cooking, this is your best alternative. Pizza Deck Ovens Deck ovens utilise a metal, stone, brick, or ceramic tile deck within an oven where an uncooked pizza is placed and heat is then transferred from the deck to the pizza. This allows for both crust and toppings to heat at the same time. These ovens are available in both floor model and countertop models. The standard temperature range of these ovens is 400-700 degrees Fahrenheit and standard cook time is 5-10 minutes per pizza. Pizza deck ovens are great for cooking fresh or frozen flatbread, thin crust pizzas and deep dish pizzas. Convection Pizza Ovens A convection oven circulates hot air throughout cooking using fans, which helps evenly cook the entire pizza and crisp the crust from the bottom. Most convection models can quickly cook both fresh and frozen, pre-made pizzas after taking about 15 minutes to preheat. Convection ovens are the least expensive, and therefore ideal if you own a small business or restaurant where pizza is an added menu item. Most of these ovens have a compact footprint and can only make one or two pizzas at once. They are not capable of producing on a huge scale. A convection pizza oven's typical temperature range is 425 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and the typical cooking time per pizza is 5-7 minutes. It is great for cooking fresh or frozen flatbread and thin crust pizzas. Conveyor Pizza Ovens This style of commercial oven uses a conveyor belt to cook the pizza. You simply need to put the frozen or fresh pizza on the conveyor belt, and it will then move mechanically through the cooking chamber at a predetermined speed. After completing the cooking process, the conveyor belt moves the finished pizza to a cooling platform where you can remove and serve it. Conveyor ovens are the ideal choice for businesses looking for a solution to quickly cook large quantities of pizza on the fly because of their rapid cooking mechanism. To suit your business needs, you can select either a gas or an electric oven. Both choices are automated, thus the food is prepared with little to no oversight. Countertop Pizza Ovens A countertop pizza oven is a cheaper, more space-saving version of the full-sized convection, conveyor, and deck pizza oven. In general, a countertop oven produces fewer pizzas than a full-sized oven, however the hourly output varies depending on the oven type. A modest installation area is also needed for countertop ovens. It should be positioned close to an electrical outlet because it is heated by electricity. Additionally, it has two decks, each of which can hold around two pies. These kinds of pizza ovens frequently take 15 minutes to finish cooking. Portable Wood and Gas Fired Pizza Ovens A portable or self-standing outdoor pizza oven is rather self-explanatory – it’s a singular construct that sits on its own foundation. Due to their legs and small size, these pizza ovens may be easily moved across any outdoor area. Portable ovens could be wood or gas-fired or both. In fact, some of these are small enough to be taken even on camping trips. Purchasing a fully assembled portable pizza oven is the best option for individuals who appreciate practical solutions. These ovens produce restaurant quality pizzas in a matter of seconds and are practically ready for use right out of the box; setup does not call for any handyman knowledge. Plus, the entire family will enjoy the peaceful and enjoyable experience of watching the flames dance across the oven. Now that you know the different pizza oven types available, you can make an informed purchase decision taking into account your budget, space constraints, fuel usage, and the quality of pizzas you desire.
