Coolants: What You Need to Know to Prevent Downtime

Sponsored By D-A Lubricant Company, Inc.

Did you know coolant is just as important as your engine oil when it comes to your fleet? Coolant needs to be monitored and tested because mechanical and/or chemical reactions can take place hindering the performance of the coolant. Coolant can break down and become less effective over time. Not monitoring the coolant could result in corrosion and/or sludge, which can impact proper function of the cooling system. If the cooling system becomes damaged, you risk the possibility of the engine overheating causing downtime for your business.

Trucks operate in harsh conditions—ragged roads, dusty trails, and long stretches of highway through untamed elements. The diesel engine filtration system—air, oil, fuel—is the first line of engine defense from unwanted contaminants. They work hard so that your equipment can work harder, and it’s imperative that you keep a close eye on engine filtration if you want your hard-working rolling iron to be productive.

Preventative maintenance schedules go a long way in protecting your engine, but today’s technology allows you to take engine health visibility to the next level. No longer do you need to wait for the truck to roll into a bay to understand the operational state of your engine.

“Mann+Hummel introduced the Senzit brand as a way of monitoring filter health and reducing downtime,” said Chris Scott, Venture Lead, Wix Filters. “Senzit provides fleet managers a simple way to track fleet utilization and filter health anywhere in the world, with urgent issues automatically being brought to their attention.”

Senzit is able to monitor the air filter status for each individual piece of equipment in real time. The system’s sensors are hooked up to the engine filter’s service port and all the generated data is sent to the cloud via 4G LTE to be turned into actionable insights, including GPS technology to help users track their equipment, allowing them to view last known location, history of the equipment’s location and activities, and aide in theft recovery situations. Senzit also tracks operating engine hours of each connected vehicle.

There is no shortage of truck-related data for fleet managers to review today, that’s why artificial intelligence is key to a successful data-driven solutions.

“ Senzit utilizes state of the art sensors powered by Artificial Intelligence to provide customers quick access to see their filter’s dust load percentage and estimated remaining life,” Scott explained. “The machine-learning aspect is key. The Senzit solution is a blend of traditional telemetric data while incorporating industry leading sensors and A.I.-fueled algorithmic data to provide the end-user with the most actionable and practical data available in the marketplace to date.”

The filtration data is there to inform your service-based decisions and compliments existing fleet maintenance practices. Senzit lets you know exactly how many hours are remaining on your air filter, especially when mileage is not always a reliable indicator of engine usage.

“With the host of information provided, Senzit enables our customers switch from operating reactively to a data-driven predictive approach,” Scott said.
